Due to glaucoma, Andrea was visually impaired from birth and lost his sight completely at the age of 12 after being hit in the face with a soccer ball. He learned Braille at a boarding school and, after finishing high school, pursued a degree in law. However, his true passion was music, particularly singing. He became a student of tenor Franco Corelli and started performing in various Pianobars.
His career officially began in 1992 when he was asked to develop a song for Pavarotti during an audition. It was during this audition that the young Andrea showcased his talent and subsequently signed his first record deal with Sugar. One of his most iconic songs, “Con te partirò,” achieved double platinum status and he quickly became renowned internationally, even receiving a star on the Walk of Fame.
In 2011, Andrea Bocelli founded the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at tackling poverty and inequality through intervention programs.
